The service

Start with the cargo, then build the movement

Break bulk cargo moves as individual pieces rather than inside a standard closed container. Project cargo may involve several related shipments that must arrive in a useful sequence for an industrial installation or other planned operation. Both require detailed preparation where standard loading and transport assumptions no longer fit.

Manufacturers, engineering businesses and equipment buyers may need to move a large fabricated unit, a heavy machine or several loads with different handling needs. We assess enquiries for domestic and international origins and destinations with relevant carriers, freight agents and specialist providers. Transport, equipment and handling resources are arranged through the parties responsible for the proposed operation, subject to technical acceptance and availability.

Practical freight support

What we coordinate

Dimensions and weight assessment

We request packed dimensions, gross weight, drawings, photographs and available lifting information for each piece. The centre of gravity, support points and lifting points may influence equipment selection. Missing technical details need clarification before a provider can assess a handling method.

Handling and transport coordination

Specialized trailers, cranes or other handling resources may be needed depending on the load. We coordinate requirements with suitable providers for review. Equipment capacity, ground conditions, lifting plans and securing methods must be established by the responsible technical parties for the actual operation.

Route and port feasibility

Oversized transport can be constrained by bridges, turning radii, overhead clearances and access to a delivery site. Port acceptance and handling arrangements also need review. We help coordinate feasibility enquiries and identify where surveys, permissions or specialist input are required before booking.

Before you book

Industrial cargo that requires individual planning

Enquiries may involve pressure vessels, fabricated structures, production machinery, heavy assemblies and equipment that cannot be packed into standard containers. A cargo drawing should show the transport configuration, including projections and protective packaging. Weight information should distinguish each shipping piece from the combined order.

Securing a large load requires more than adding straps. The load's support arrangement, approved attachment points and forces during handling and transport need technical consideration. Packing or preservation requirements may also change where machinery is exposed to weather during a sea or road leg.

For a multi-piece project, provide the installation or receiving sequence and the unloading capacity at destination. Sending every item together may create congestion or storage needs. A staged movement should account for cargo readiness, equipment availability and the practical handover of each lot.

How we work

A clear plan, from assessment to updates

  1. 01Assess

Assess technical cargo data, drawings, lifting points, origin and destination access, and any installation sequencing requirements.

  2. 02Plan

Plan transport modes, equipment enquiries and route feasibility checks, then obtain provider rates and set out the quotation's technical assumptions.

  3. 03Coordinate

Coordinate booking communication, technical handovers, port handling and documentation after the quotation and terms are accepted and feasibility points resolved.

  4. 04Update

Update shipment milestones and communicate changes that affect equipment scheduling, site readiness or the next project delivery.

Make an informed choice

Resolve feasibility before fixing a delivery programme

An early budget indication is different from a confirmed executable movement. Final measurements, provider acceptance, access reviews and any required permissions can change the plan. Identify who approves lifting and securing methods, who prepares the site and which assumptions underpin the quote. Where the scope is still developing, record those open points so procurement and receiving teams can make informed decisions.

Why Carglocal Logistics?

Practical planning. Clear communication.

Carglocal provides freight coordination and documentation assistance across the road, port and sea interfaces of a project movement. We focus on practical planning, clear responsibilities and responsive communication with the carriers, agents and specialists supplying transport and handling. The customer's address need not be the shipment origin. Each proposed movement is assessed on its own technical and routing requirements, with changes communicated to the people preparing the next handover.

Your questions, answered

Break Bulk & Project Cargo: frequently asked questions

When is cargo treated as break bulk?

Cargo may need a break bulk arrangement when its size, shape or handling requirements make standard closed-container shipping unsuitable. The available equipment and proposed route must be assessed for the specific load.

Can you quote from approximate machinery dimensions?

Approximate data may support an initial discussion, but a workable quotation needs confirmed transport dimensions, weight and handling information. Drawings and photographs help providers assess feasibility.

Does Carglocal supply its own heavy-lift equipment?

Carglocal coordinates equipment requirements with relevant providers. The actual equipment, technical responsibilities and operating arrangements are agreed for each shipment.

Why might a route survey be necessary?

A large or heavy load may encounter clearance, turning, bridge or site-access constraints. Specialist review helps establish whether the proposed route and transport arrangement are feasible before dispatch.
